ENGL 2140: African American Literature

3 Credit Hours

Prerequisite: ENGL 1101  
Survey of important works of African American literature.


Course Learning Outcomes
Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:

  1. Develop and demonstrate interpretive and analytical skills through class discussions and writing assignments.
  2. Analyze creative works in relation to the historical, political, economic, sociocultural, aesthetic, or ethical contexts in which those works emerged.
  3. Create a project that uses analysis and interpretation of a literary work from our course.
  4. Identify a range of genres, texts, authors, and literary and social movements related to African-American literature.
  5. Label and analyze literary devices employed by African-American authors.
